But, our Patron-supported bonus page with Real Things will post on Friday, because as much fun as this was to draw, this page still feels like cheating XD People or gtfo
And last but not least, join me in celebrating some of our illustrious $10+ Patrons :]__] Thanks to Patrons of all levels as well, for making all of these red squiggle comics possible.

I’m guessing this is a visual representation of passing out with pain? Seems quite accurate to me.
That was my guess, too.
Indeed, that’s pretty much what I saw, in my own experience. I had dislocated both arms at the time. Strange, that swirling red patterns would be such a universal human experience…
I think I remember the first panel from when a log hit me in the face.
That’s gonna sore in the morning…
So this is what… pain… looks like.
That or aliens.
Follow me here, pain-aliens.
Toldja. Martians don’t know about pain. The reconstruction begins…
This is visualisation of pain and anxiety, yeah
(we know)
In all seriousness though, thats an excellent representation of pain. Especially deep tissue, pulsing pains.
That rustle makes me suspicious though.
That rustle is the representation of consciousness returning.
It isn’t as amazing as pain, despite what a big deal we tend to make out of it.
Rustling is the sound of an exploratory garbage bag tentacle reaching out of the water to find out where all the noise of coming from.
Think the second panel is a representation of cells, but they don’t look like nerve cells… could be a type of muscle cell?
Looks like muscle cells to me.
So it was an actual whale-fish eye? Are we getting Lovecraftian down here in the depths?
I liked the part where the red squigly did that thing.
That was my favorite part too!!
oh yes I have seen this before
There’s a great line, I think it’s from a Pratchett book:
“It was later. Pain had happened.”
Red circles and psychedelic patterns – hallmarks of great SF since Space Odyssey.
That’s a great page, yep. :)
That was pretty much my only takeaway from Solaris
Ahhhh! Lan!
I had just started playing an orchestra version of Lavender Town theme (creepy tune) when I saw this update and I just… thought the first two panels were a real creepy-ass Martian star gate sequence. Then I remembered Mike punched himself in the thigh.
part of me wants really creepy martians that exist in the mindscape now.
This is your brain.
This is your brain on amorous thighfish.
…stop, I’m going to asphyxiate from laughter!
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I lol’d pretty hard when I read that in my head with a narrator’s voice
Perfect.
*sigh* THIS is what happens MIKE!
Apart from being suprisingly narrative, the first panel also looks like a nod to 2001 a Space Oddesey.
which is cool, I like that.
I actually haven’t seen the film, only read the book… kinda neat tho :B
The book makes way more sense than the movie. For all of you who have seen the movie, but not read the book, I highly recommend picking up a copy. The beginning and ending are not nearly as abstract as in the movie.
Also interesting to note that the screenplay and novel were written concurrently (as opposed to one being derived from the other)
Kubrick and Clarke decided to use ACC’s short story “The Sentinel” as the basis for the film. As that happened, Clarke decided to flesh out the story into a full-length novel. It should be noted that the novel takes place around Saturn as opposed to Jupiter. This was later changed in the sequels.
… Can you get high off sulfurous air? At first I thought it was just laughing gas, but then I remembered that’s nitrous oxide and has no sulfur in it.
Um… hm, well, afaik you can’t. I suppose you could get “high” off of lack of oxygen to the brain, or from an overdose of a breatheable gas (nitrogen, helium, oxygen, etc). Either way, this is supposed to be showing more of delirium than intoxication XD
To be fair, I guess one could easily be mistaken for the other. The only difference between that I can think of is if there’s any substances involved.
Ooh, colours. Let’s do it again!
The first one looks like something robotic. The second one looks like weird cells or something.
… The cyborg awakes?
Bex is going to show up and be like “What happened to you? I’ve been trying to geta hold of you on your Wrist LoJack-a-mater for hours!”
I’m seeing cell nuclei and golgi apparatus. Is Martian going to meld with Mike to make Miketian? Mike might die, but his genetic material might live on in some other new life-form. The beast is risen.
You cannot grasp the true form of Giygas’ attack!
Honestly that first panel is exactly what it feels like to wake of after fainting to me.
Wow, it’s like an inverse version of what you see when you pass out from low blood pressure! (Or… I guess what it looks like under low light conditions…)
Excellent work. (As usual.)
This is a visual representation of what it’s like to stub your toe on the furniture in the middle of the night.
